DESCRIPTION

PETROL STEEL supplies and exports spiral-welded steel pipe for water transmission, oil and gas gathering, structural piling, and firewater systems. PETROL STEEL supplies and delivers large-diameter pipes to project specifications, with coordinated production, rigorous quality control, full traceability, and reliable delivery for demanding pipeline EPC projects worldwide. We roll, weld, and test our pipes under one roof. Because the people who take your order also manage what leaves our yard, you get one accountable point of contact from inquiry to delivery. The same engineers who review your order also ensure it meets specifications before it leaves our stockyard—no third-party handoffs, no blurred responsibility.

Spiral pipe is made from hot-rolled steel coil, not plate. The strip is uncoiled, leveled, and edge-milled, then fed into a three-roll forming station at a fixed helix angle and joined by double-sided submerged arc welding—one pass on the inside, one on the outside, under a blanket of flux. A change of helix angle changes the finished diameter without changing the coil width, which is why one spiral mill covers the full large-diameter range so economically. It is also why specifying the standard and grade together with the product name matters: a purchase order that reads only “spiral steel pipe” can come back quoted as lightweight spiral duct, which is a different product entirely.

Two points are worth checking before you issue a PO. First, the coil changeover produces a transverse butt weld that interrupts the helix; we treat these cross seams as a separate inspection item because a cold or under-fused splice is the one documented leak path on spiral pipe in service. Second, helical geometry does not suit every duty—for walls above roughly 25 mm, sour service, or jobs where a straight seam is written into the specification, we will tell you to move to LSAW or seamless rather than force a spiral solution. That conversation costs nothing and saves a rejection later.

Standards We Work To—and What They Mean for Your Order

Our in-house production reference is Chinese national and industry standards. Because these standards are technically aligned with the international codes most EPC and utility buyers work to, we can usually quote against your specification directly. When an exact grade or test requirement is outside our scope, we say so before the order is placed rather than after the pipes are rolled.

GB/T 9711-2023 — Steel pipe for pipeline transportation systems in the petroleum and natural gas industries. This is the Chinese adoption of ISO 3183 and shares the same PSL1 / PSL2 structure and grade ladder with API Spec 5L: L245 = Grade B, L290 = X42, L360 = X52, L415 = X60, L450 = X65, L485 = X70, and L555 = X80.

GB/T 3091-2025—Welded steel pipes for low-pressure fluid transportation; the domestic equivalent of ASTM A53, covering water, air, steam, and low-pressure gas service.

SY/T 5037-2023—Submerged arc welded steel pipe for common fluid service; the workhorse standard for large-diameter water, drainage, compressed air, and piling supply.

API Spec 5L—Accepted as the technical reference for line pipe grades; quote with PSL level, grade, and supplemental requirements stated.

AWWA C200—Covers spiral-seam steel water pipe 6 inches (150 mm) and larger for potable, raw, reclaimed water, and wastewater; name this standard on water transmission inquiries, and the ambiguity disappears.

ASTM A252—Piling pipe, Grade 2 and Grade 3; we confirm grade and wall in writing against the project specification.

EN standards—EN 10217 / EN 10219 series reviewed on request for European-tender supply.

Mill test certificates and traceability

Every pipe is delivered with a mill test certificate carrying heat number traceability, plus hydrostatic test records, ultrasonic inspection records, dimensional inspection records, and radiographic inspection records. We can provide supervision and witness inspection by an authorized Special Equipment Inspection Institute when this is written into the contract—inspection and supervision reports are issued against the agreed contract terms.

How We Make It—and Where We Check It

The production line runs on roller conveyors from uncoiling to dispatch, which keeps handling marks and out-of-roundness down. Inspection is not a final gate—it runs in parallel with production.

  1. Uncoiling · leveling · butt welding

Hot-rolled coil is uncoiled, leveled, and edge-milled. Trailing and leading coil ends are butt-welded so the strip feeds continuously.

  1. Helical forming · dual SAW

Strip enters the forming station at a fixed angle. Inside and outside seams are welded simultaneously under flux with automatic arc tracking.

  1. NDT · hydrostatic test

100% seam ultrasonic testing, X-ray of cross seams and pipe ends, then hydrostatic pressure test on each pipe with a test report.

  1. Cut · bevel · measure · mark

Plasma cutting to length, facing and chamfering, straightening, dimensional check, weighing, marking, and warehousing.

Do you supply coating and lining?

Yes. Our coating plant handles full-diameter pipe from DN15 to DN3800 with internal and external FBE/2FBE, 3PE/2PE, PE lining, cement mortar lining, coal tar epoxy, and IPN8710 potable-water coating. The same pipe can therefore be supplied bare, coated only, or fully lined and coated to the project specification.

How do you pack and protect the pipe for export?

We bundle, end-protect, and separate pipes for sea transport; we cap or wrap beveled ends, and we sleeve coated pipes to prevent mechanical damage in transit. Packing details are included on the commercial invoice and packing list so they can be checked against the letter of credit.

Water transmission—raw water intake, potable water mains, irrigation, and long-distance water diversion. Pair with cement mortar lining or internal FBE/epoxy for drinking water duty.

Municipal drainage and wastewater—gravity and low-pressure outfall, treatment plant pipework. External 3PE or coal tar epoxy is used for buried services.

Oil and gas gathering—low to medium pressure gathering lines and water injection lines in line pipe grades.

Compressed air and steam—plant utility piping and low-pressure steam distribution.

Structural piling—foundation piles and retaining wall construction, supplied as bare pipe or with welded pile shoes and joints on request.

Firewater systems—building and plant fire mains; internal lining selected for the required firewater standard.

Thermal and district heating—carrier pipe for prefabricated directly buried polyurethane-insulated lines and steel-sleeved steam lines.

Mining—dewatering, ventilation, and service lines, including MA-certified coated composite pipe for underground coal mine use.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions buyers ask most often before issuing a purchase order. If your question is not here, send it with your specification, and we will answer it in writing.

Is SSAW the same as SAWH?

Yes. SSAW stands for Spiral Submerged Arc Welded, and SAWH stands for Helical Submerged Arc Welded. Both names describe the same pipe: steel coil formed into a helical seam and joined by submerged arc welding. The difference is naming preference—North American buyers usually search for SSAW, while some European specifications use HSAW or SAWH.

What is the real advantage over LSAW for large diameters?

Helix angle and coil width control the finished diameter, so a single coil width can cover a very wide diameter range. That flexibility is what makes spiral the economical choice once diameters move beyond the economical range of a straight-seam mill. For walls above about 25 mm, with very high pressure, or where a straight seam is specified, LSAW or seamless is the right answer—we supply those too and will tell you honestly which route fits the job.

What is your typical lead time?

Lead time depends on diameter, wall, grade, and coating. For standard sizes in stock coil, dispatch is usually measured in days; for heavy-wall or high-grade line pipe, it runs longer. We quote a firm production and dispatch schedule against each inquiry rather than publishing a number that would not hold for every order.

What is the difference between S355J0H and S355J2H?

Both have the same strength. J2H must meet its impact energy at −20°C, and J0H at 0°C. Choose the lowest service or driving temperature.

Do you supply SSAW pipe to API 5L as well as EN 10219?

Yes. We can.

Can a third party inspect before shipment?

Yes. We accept SGS, BV, TUV, or a buyer-nominated inspector and recommend starting at coil receiving.

What do you need for a quotation?
