DESCRIPTION

Weld Overlay Pipes (Clad ID) for Corrosive Media Supplier & Manufacturer for Oil & Gas and Chemical Projects

PETROL STEEL supplies and exports Weld Overlay Pipes (Clad ID) for Corrosive Media for challenging oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical processing, offshore, and energy projects. These pipes are intended for process lines exposed to corrosive fluids, sour service, and CO₂/H₂S-containing media and consist of a carbon steel, low-alloy steel, or high-yield-strength steel base pipe with an internal corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) weld overlay. This construction gives corrosion resistance on the process-side surface while maintaining the structural strength and economy of the base metal.

For international EPC contractors, engineering companies, and project buyers, the key question is not only whether a supplier can supply CRA material. The question is whether the supplier can control the base metal, overlay metallurgy, dilution, weld procedure, heat treatment, dimensional tolerances, inspection, and traceability as one complete piping package. PETROL STEEL coordinates these requirements from technical review to production, inspection, and export so that buyers are able to source Weld Overlay Pipes for corrosive media with a clearly defined manufacturing and quality control route.

CRA Weld Overlay for Corrosive and Sour-Service Media

The Clad ID is chosen based on the process medium, temperature, pressure, and corrosion mechanism specified by the project. Depending on project specifications and engineering review, CRA overlay materials available include 316L / S31603, Alloy 625 / N06625, Alloy 825 / N08825, 2205, 2507, 254SMO, and N02201. Typical base materials include carbon steel, low-alloy steel, and high-strength line-pipe grades such as API 5L L415/X60, L450MS, and X65, and pressure-vessel-related grades such as SA516 Gr.70 where applicable.

This configuration is particularly important when the outside pipe structure does not need an expensive solid CRA pipe, but the inside process surface must be resistant to corrosive service. Typical media and environments include H₂S, CO₂, sour gas, acidic hydrocarbons, produced fluids, chloride-containing process streams, and other aggressive chemical media. The final CRA selection must be verified against the project corrosion study, process conditions, and the applicable material specification.

Weld Overlay Pipe Manufacturing for EPC Project Requirements

The weld overlay is directly deposited on the internal surface of the steel pipe to form the required corrosion-resistant layer. The manufacturing route is dependent on pipe size, material combination, and project requirements and may include pipe preparation, internal surface preparation, controlled overlay welding, heat treatment where required, machining or finishing, dimensional inspection, and final NDT.

An important technical issue for weld overlay piping is the metallurgical control of the interface between the base metal and the CRA layer. The welding procedure shall control heat input, dilution, chemical composition, and overlay thickness to ensure that the finished clad ID meets the specified corrosion resistance and dimensional requirements. PWHT is performed when required by the approved manufacturing procedure and project specification to relieve residual stresses, followed by the specified inspection and documentation.

PETROL STEEL does not impose the same specification on every order but supports project-specific requirements. Therefore, pipe diameter, wall thickness, CRA grade, overlay thickness, welding procedure, heat treatment, testing, and acceptance criteria can be reviewed against the purchaser’s drawings, datasheets, ITP, project specifications, and applicable codes prior to commercial quotation.

Typical Weld Overlay Pipe Sizes, Materials, and Supply Scope

Weld overlay pipes can be supplied to suit a wide range of industrial piping requirements. Typical composite pipe sizes are in the range of approximately 168 mm to 2,032 mm OD (6″–80″). Larger-diameter solutions require engineering and manufacturing review. The base metal thickness is generally in the range of 8 mm to 65 mm, and the CRA weld overlay is generally in the range of around 2–5 mm depending on the corrosion allowance required, CRA grade, and project specification.

Standard pipe lengths up to around 12 m can be supplied, with longer piping sections of approximately 18m or 24m considered via qualified circumferential welding and project-specific fabrication arrangements. PETROL STEEL can also coordinate requirements for related components and downstream piping such as CRA clad bends, fittings, flanges, and prefabricated piping, allowing EPC buyers to develop a consistent material and inspection strategy across the piping system.

Inspection, NDT, and Documentation for International EPC Buyers

Product performance is not only dependent on the nominal CRA grade but also on the integrity and uniformity of the overlay; therefore, quality assurance is a key procurement issue for Weld Overlay Pipes. PETROL STEEL offers internal QC inspection as well as third-party inspection on its Weld Overlay Pipe orders. Inspection may consist of weld NDT, UT, or RT of applicable welds; MT/PT surface examination; PMI verification; dimensional inspection; hydrostatic testing; and review of welding and heat-treatment records, as per the approved ITP and project specification.

The project documentation may include material certificates in accordance with EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2, PMI reports, NDT reports, heat-treatment records, pressure-test documentation, dimensional inspection reports, and other quality records required by the purchase order. Third-party inspection can be made with internationally recognized inspection organizations such as SGS, BV, or DNV if specified by the purchaser. The scope of inspection and acceptance criteria are assumed to be governed by the approved project specification, ITP, and applicable code and are not assumed to be universal.

Where Weld Overlay Pipes Are Used

Weld overlay pipes are well suited for piping systems that require internal corrosion resistance but where a solid CRA pipe would be an unnecessary material cost. Key applications include upstream oil & gas gathering, sour gas processing, petrochemical plants, refineries, chemical processing, offshore facilities, subsea piping, carbon capture and storage (CCS), LNG process systems, and other energy infrastructure.

They may also be considered for selected coal-chemical, salt-alkali chemical, hydrogen, and new-energy process applications where the process conditions require a corrosion-resistant internal surface. Material selection and qualification for offshore and sour service projects should be based on the actual operating environment, including pressure, temperature, chloride exposure, H₂S partial pressure, CO₂ concentration, and applicable corrosion-control requirements.

Why EPC Buyers Work with PETROL STEEL

PETROL STEEL is an exporter of weld overlay pipes and other related CRA piping products to the world with over 10 years of experience in exports. Every order is backed by an experienced technical team with 15+ years of experience in the industry, an international trade and marketing team with 20+ years of experience, QC personnel with 15+ years of experience, and logistics professionals with 15+ years of experience.

Normal lead time for delivery of weld overlay Pipe orders is about 5-6 weeks, depending on material availability, pipe dimensions, overlay specification, inspection requirements, and project quantity. PETROL STEEL has a simple principle regarding quality control: Every order of Weld Overlay Pipe will be inspected by internal QC and third-party inspection according to the agreed project inspection plan. In accordance with the company’s stated export history, the company has been exporting these products for over 10 years and has a zero-claim record for the products and services supplied in this product category.

The value for EPC procurement teams is not just the pipe. It is the ability to get one experienced international supplier to provide a technically reviewed, inspected, and export-ready piping product with the required CRA overlay, documentation, and logistics coordination.
